What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that helps people recover from the emotional distress of traumatic experiences. It works by targeting negative memories and reprocessing them in a way that helps reduce their lingering impact.
EMDR therapy follows a phased, evidence-based process. In each session, we’ll identify what’s surfacing in your thoughts or emotions, and use guided techniques to shift how these memories are stored in your mind. Over time, EMDR can help reduce symptoms like:
- Difficulty sleeping or focusing
- Hypervigilance or feeling constantly on edge
- Nightmares, flashbacks, or intrusive thoughts
- Emotional distress when reminded of past events
- A sense of being “stuck” or unable to move forward
- Heightened anxiety, anger, or irritability
